Is borax safe for dogs?

I can't really give too many detls, but I have 3 dogs, an older maltese/shih tzu mix (14+yrs), a 2 year old poodle, and a 6 month old shih tzu. He hasn't shown any symptoms at all. The older dog is very sweet, loves everyone and very well mannered. The poodle has no energy and just lies around.

The poodle is the 2nd dog to show symptoms. The first was a 5 year old lab. It seems to act like it's having a seizure, then wakes up and starts looking at us like it can't understand what's going on. The last one to get sick died about a month ago.

Last week the 6 month old shih tzu started doing some symptoms. First it had diarrhea, then it had a sore neck. It seems to be getting worse. It started throwing up yesterday and went back to the vet with the diarrhea. The last time I took it to the vet, it was acting very anxious. She didn't do a physical examination. We brought it back this morning, and they are sending it in for an examination.

I don't know if the shih tzu has anything to do with the other dogs. The shih tzu came to us from a pet store and the poodle came from a breeder. The older dog is a rescue from someone who had a dog she rescued. It's been with us for about a year.

Ask a Puppy: The Basics

This is a forum community meant to be for puppy owners to exchange information and resources, not a place to advertise your product. The rules and guidelines are pretty strghtforward - we don't like posts like "I have xxxx and it's the best thing ever!!" but we do like useful information and tips from owners who are trying to find the same things you are. While we don't sell anything here, the same rules of advertising other forums, websites and businesses still apply:

We don't have a puppy category - you are welcome to create one

Please use good English, we are a frly literate group, but be nice about it.

Give us a title or description of the thread - no one is going to click a link and read a lengthy thread title.

Tell us what you want to ask - this is not the place to just post a question. We don't know what you are asking.

Thank you.

Ask a Puppy: How to Take Care of Your New Puppy

This forum is all about asking and answering puppy questions. If you have a question, please ask it! We'll do our best to help you. If you have a problem with your new puppy, or if your new puppy is having a problem, please tell us about it! We may not be able to help you in person, but if we know others who can, they will be able to give you the advice you need.

It's important to realize that we cannot provide medical advice in this forum. However, members of this forum often end up finding each other through Google and discussing medical issues with their dogs. Do not put your medical questions in this forum unless you are sure that they are appropriate to this site.

Our puppies are often treated with medication or surgery, so we cannot guarantee that any specific question you ask about your puppy will not already be answered in this forum. If you have a medical question that you think this forum may be the best place to ask, please do not post it here - there are many medical sites on the internet that can help you with your specific question. We also have a few other forums that are specifically about your breed, your age, and your medical concerns that may be a better place to ask your question.

Finally, it is important to realize that the answers you receive in this forum will not replace any of the advice you may receive from a veterinarian in your state. In some cases the advice you receive in this forum may contradict advice you receive from your veterinarian, but it is important to realize that your veterinarian may not have much knowledge about this forum. If you find that you need veterinary advice, be sure to contact your veterinarian.

Also, you must realize that this forum provides the opportunity to provide input and discussions about your dog and the other members of this forum. We all love our puppies and want them to have the best quality of life. The opinions expressed in this forum, however, do not always reflect the feelings of other members of this forum or of the members of the board at large.

I would like to be able to access the forum through my phone too, but my phone company doesn't allow access to the internet. I just started getting a service provider from Verizon yesterday and I am having to wt until next week to get in contact with them. If I wanted to download my contact info, I could only get the information through my computer, so I am out of luck here.
